Event Details
Begun in 2010 at the Kentucky Historical Society, the Civil War Governors of Kentucky Digital Documentary Edition (CWGK) makes all the documents that crossed the desks of Kentucky’s five wartime governors (three Unionists and two provisional Confederates) freely available to the public. To date, the project has digitized and transcribed over 10,000 documents on Civil War Kentucky. Yet, despite its title, CWGK is less interested in the nominal governors. Rather, it focuses on recapturing the lives of ordinary Kentuckians caught in the upheaval of their lives during the Civil War Era.
Project Director Chuck Welsko will pull on these stories to provide an update about CWGK, showcasing how Kentuckians navigated the chaos of war, emancipation, and everyday life during the war. His talk will also discuss how the project team conducts their work and KHS’s plans for adding another 10,000 documents to the project site.
Sponsored by the Frankfort Civil War Round Table, Capital City Museum, and PSPL.
