Event Details
Join historian Phillip Seyfrit as he discusses Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith, a pivotal figure in the 1862 Kentucky Campaign and an equal in rank to Robert E. Lee for much of the Civil War. A native of Florida, Edmund Kirby Smith served in both the eastern and western theaters and went on to have a rather noted career as a college level professor after the war. He was the last full General of the Confederacy to pass away in the 1890s.
Phillip Seyfrit is the curator of the Battle of Richmond Visitors Center and the superintendent of the Battle of Richmond (KY) park and other related properties. He has held this position for 17 years. Seyfrit is a graduate of EKU’s Model Laboratory School, Eastern Kentucky University, and the Mid-America College of Funeral Service. He also serves as president of the Madison County Civil War Roundtable and the Central Kentucky World War II Roundtable, both of which meet in Richmond.
Sponsored by the Frankfort Civil War Round Table, Capital City Museum, and PSPL.
