Event Details

Local historian David Hume will share stories of his Civil War ancestors. Hume's great-great-great grandfather, Phillip Swigert, did not fight in the war, but was involved with the railroad and Frankfort at the time. Hume's great-great grandfather, Dr. Edgar Hume, ran away from home at 16 to fight for the Confederacy. Although turned down for enlistment, he was captured by federal troops and spent time in a prisoner of war camp. Another great-great grandfather, Samuel South, fought in the Orphan Brigade, participating in every major battle of the Civil War as mounted cavalry. South later became a preacher and started the Excelsior Institute in Frankfort.

David Hume holds a degree in History from Transylvania University. He has owned Excelsior Motors for 40 years, restoring Citroen automobiles. Hume also operates two farms and serves as President of the Midway Museum.

Sponsored by the Frankfort Civil War Round Table, Capital City Museum, and PSPL.
