Event Details

Meet local artist Shaun Murphy and learn about his sculpture collection, All the Presidents Heads, on display in the PSPL lobby throughout the month of February!

Murphy began his art education in the United Kingdom, studying art education at Coventry College of Education (Warwick University). After this, he studied painting and sculpture at St. Albans College of Art (Hertfordshire University) and media design at Plymouth College of Art (Plymouth University). In his first job in the UK, he taught media design in the Faculty of Art and Design at Bristol University. His later work experiences included training teachers in the London Borough of Hillingdon on how to include media studies in K-12 curriculum and advising inner London schools and colleges on how to use new technologies. He also produced and directed media programs for the UK Government's Department of Employment, Lloyd's of London, The Marketing Improvements Group, Aon Consulting, and Fidelity Investments.

After emigrating to the United States in 2001, he was responsible for community and family engagement in the Kentucky Department of Education. This included 21st century community learning center programs, service learning, and community education, all of which have a strong element of art and media education. Murphy is now a sculptor in the Broadway Clay Studio, here in Frankfort.

Other accomplishments include winning the first National Design for Learning competition in the UK, a BAFTA Bronze Award, two publications in the British Library, serving as a Grand Prix judge for the International Television Association, and having his work exhibited in art galleries in Hertfordshire and Devon.
