Event Details

Join PSPL for Story by Story, a monthly series for adults and teens, where storytellers from around the country share stories reflecting diverse cultures, beliefs, and experiences. Performances run 45-60 minutes, followed by an up-to 30 minute discussion opportunity. An American Sign Language interpreter will be provided for all events.

Join West Virginian Adam Booth as he tells Mr. Patches, an original story of the 1990s from his Appalachian 20th Century series. With a goal to illuminate the Appalachian experience over the course of a hundred years, Adam's Appalachian 20th Century is a cycle of original program-length neo-traditional stories about our people and their situations, incorporating two traditional tales, actual historical events, and regional culture and folklore.

Adam Booth is the 2022 West Virginia Folk Artist of the Year, awarded at the Governor’s Arts Awards. Adam blends traditional mountain folklore, music, and an awareness of contemporary Appalachia to create original, forward-thinking story artistry. Adam’s new multidisciplinary program The Heron’s Journey is currently featured on the 2024-2025 Mid Atlantic Arts Touring Roster. As a nationally touring artist, his professional telling appearances include premiere storytelling events across the United States, including the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, the International Storytelling Center, the National Storytelling Festival, the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival, the Appalachian Studies Association Conference, the National Storytelling Conference, the National Academy of Medicine, the National Academy of Sciences, and as a Spoken Word Resident at the Banff Centre (Alberta, Canada). He is a member of the Recording Academy and his recordings have received multiple national honors, including a Parents’ Choice Gold Award. Adam serves as the inaugural Storyteller-In-Residence at Shepherd University and is the founding artistic director of Speak Story Series (https://speakstoryseries.com/), a premier destination for storytelling in concert.
